ABOUT AMANDA WOOD DESIGN

AMANDA WOOD DESIGN combines the love of making wet and needled felt art, and digital illustrations. Each piece is handmade by me, Amanda Wood. Most of my art is colorful, joyful, and has a story that sparked my interest and motivated me to create each of my pieces.

You'll see ocean themes from my childhood growing up in Southern California; birds and animals that live on shade coffee farms; tattooed circus women from the early 20th century; really anything that lands in my mind and makes me curious.

FELT ART

The felted pieces are often combined with burlap and embellished with embroidery and sometimes beads.

ILLUSTRATIONS

My illustrations are created digitally based on my sketched drawing using Adobe Illustrator.

I hope you enjoy what you see as you explore my site.

Cheers!

ABOUT WET AND NEEDLE FELTING

ABOUT WET FELTING

Wet felting is a process that uses water, soap, and friction to create a non-woven fabric called felt from wool fibers. By layering wool and wetting it with hot, soapy water, you can agitate or compress the fibers to help them bond together.

ABOUT NEEDLE FELTING

Needle felting is a craft that uses barbed needles to interlock wool fibers, creating 2D or 3D shapes. By repeatedly poking the needle into wool roving, the fibers tangle and mat together, forming a solid, felted piece.
